With the condiment more commonly known as monosodium glutamate or MSG for short a food additive that has received a bad rap since it was invented. The debate has long been raging but till now no concrete ill effects have been found linked to the maltreated food ingredient. In fact the stated compound is more concentrated in mother’s milk than in its common form as a food additive. It is a food enhancer that was initially extracted from seaweed. Monosodium glutamate is present in protein food sources such as meat and dairy that makes it a favorite food enhancer by the Chinese who use it heavily in their time honored dishes.
Even the WHO has belayed fears of the reported ill effects, most of which were coincidental at best but there are some very rare cases of hyper-sensitivity to the said food additive but without lasting effects. So should we or shouldn’t we use the said food additive? To tell you the truth, the myth may have been due to overuse of the said spice to make something unpalatable better tasting. Anything in excess is obviously harmful to your health just like salt, too much of which is linked to heart problems and other lethal diseases.
